Polished off with a fistful of upgrades, the BOSS Katana Head Gen 3 serves up a broad range of voicings and effects. This 100W-strong modelling amp head supports an equally broad range of set-ups and can be hooked up to a matching speaker cab to complete a gig-ready stack, but you can also use the built-in 5-inch speaker in less demanding situations like practice sessions. As well as fifteen effects divided across five effects sections, guitarists get to pick and choose from six different amps, each of which comes with two voicings. Since this is a third-gen amp, the sound and response have also been substantially improved compared to older Katanas, courtesy of the latest Tube Logic technology.

The Katana Head Gen 3: In-Depth Tweaking

The Katana Head Gen 3 gives you four Tone Settings for saving and recalling custom presets, which can be easily dialled in using the large collection of controls. Things can be taken even further via the BOSS Tone Studio app, which hooks you up with in-depth editing tools like additional EQ settings, three Cabinet Resonance settings and a total of 60 high-quality effects. So you can rehearse at more sociable volume levels, BOSS have even built in a special Power Control.

Besides the practical features that have already been mentioned, the Katana Head Gen 3 comes fitted with a Power Amp input for plugging in modelling amplifiers, your multi-FX processor or other gear; a Bluetooth adapter-connector that gives you the option to plug in a Bluetooth Audio MIDI Dual Adapter (not included) for wireless music streaming and eased editing; and a dedicated port for plugging in a GA-FC or A-FC EX foot controller, giving you maximum control over your live sound.
